Playdate x3

Whew! Cole and I have been busy the last few days! We are so lucky to have so many friends with kids right around his age! On friday we met a few friends over at the mall kids area to let them run around and burn some energy. If you have been reading my blog for a while now you will know that he is {not} the most adventurous of children. He likes to stick close to me or he cries and clings to me like I'm trying to feed him to the wolves. He definitely started out that way, but about 10 minutes in was running around and playing with all the kids. He just loved it! Then we headed over to CPK {california pizza kitchen} and that is where the trouble began. He wanted nothing to do with sitting still or eating or behaving! We ended up leaving early because of the complete meltdown he had inside the restaurant. It was the craziest thing I've seen him do. Screaming at the top of his lungs....crying....throwing his head back and arching his back. So completely embarrassing...especially since they were new friends we were with.

{cole, sutton, landon...missing reid who discovered the fun cars outside the play area}

Yesterday, we hung out at the park with 3 of our BBC {baby boot camp} friends that we made when Cole was 3 months old! Cole had fun running around...eating dirt...drinking the other kids sippy cups. Tricia brought cupcakes to celebrate my birthday {ya, the one that never ends ;)} Cole loved him some cupcake! He was a mess by the end of the fun, plus is was 85 degrees out, muggy and super windy. It's always so much fun hanging out with them, even though the kids really don't play {together} but I know they will one day.

Today, we met our sweet playgroup over at a place called Boomerangs. It's a giant room filled with all sorts of fun bounce houses and slides. I knew before we even went that this is NOT up Cole's alley one bit, but I figured what the heck...he'll never like it if he doesn't try it. The second we walked in he was already doing what he does best...clingy to me like I was throwing him to the wolves and crying. Plus, they wouldn't let the parents get on the stuff so there wasn't too much our kids could do, but everyone had fun anyway. We finished off the day with a lunch at Cole's favorite place to eat...Chick-fil-a...too bad mom brought him his own lunch...pb&j, cheese puffs and peas, but he gobbled it up anyway.

{the group shot...8 kids and we sang itsy bitsy spider to get them all to sit still. a little trick i learned from another mommy}

Wow, you guys sure have been busy! I just wanted to tell you that at 2, Seamus was exactly the way Cole is now...very clingy and wallflower-ish, even at the funnest playdate! We had a hard time going places, because he was just so timid. But he did grow out of it, and now he can be the life of the party! So I have a feeling the tears will be short-lived. Soon Cole will be jumping right into the fun!

For such a shy guy, Cole sure does stay busy! Looks like tons of fun! Oh, your first temper tantrum out in public - congratulations on that milestone. I've packed up and left restaurants, stores, Walmart, church, probably even more than that. Cole is such a cutie, his shyness won't last too long, and then you'll be begging for a hug!

Getting 8 kids together for a picture is one heck of a feat. Cole is much like Preston was-he is still not Mr. Social right away-at school he has to have his alone time (think coffee time) and hates when all the kids rush at him when he walks in-but now it's not crying it's annoyance. He is like an 80 year old grouchy man in a kid's body.
I know I say it all the time, but Cole is so friggin cute. His hair is already growing in from the haircut you did not like. He is just such a patoot. Sorry about the meltdown in the restuarant-wait until cole realizes he'd rather eat than cry at restaurants!

ohhhhhhhhh i am LOVIN the new spring look! and the eggs at the signature are my fave part. :)

the funniest part about this post is you saying that about cole being thrown to the wolves, and him crying his head off in the bouncing toys like you've just told him you're abandoning him FOREVER! but how cute does he look in that white polo!?!

you're SO lucky to have your playgroups, and next time i'm in dallas make sure to schedule them ALL while i'm there. ;)

Love the layout!! And, seriously, no need to be embarrassed because at CPK we were all dealing with our little ones!!! Cara and I just had to laugh at the whole situation and how this was seriously some natural birth control for any young couple there that night!!! The group picture turned out so cute!!! Works like a charm!! ;)

Katie!
You are so fortunate to be able to stay at home with Cole and to have so many fun playgroups! It looks like you guys live in a wonderful area with lots of options for kids! Dan always says how he loved living in Texas - I'm starting to get it - lot's more options!
As far as Cole and the fit in the restaurant .... must be an age thing! Caden is getting VERY good at testing his boundaries in public! His latest was attempting to climb out of the cart at Target and screaming NO at the top of his lungs when I made him sit back down - the joys!
As always adorable pictures of Cole! He is looking SO much more
boy then baby!

He is just too cute! Yes, the tantrums are embarassing. Parker "fell out" the other day at Target. I just kept shopping like I didn't hear him. I'm sure the other customers loved that.

Wow! Sounds like you all had a great time! I love all the cute pictures! Great tip... the singing to get them to all sit still for a photo... I'm going to use that one for sure!

Hi Katie! I found your blog through Annie's blog, and I've just spent like an hour catching up on your sweet little man. He is ADORABLE, and you and your husband seem like such awesome parents. We are in a playgroup with Annie and Sutton and Meredith and Reid too so hopefully we'll get to meet you guys sometime. Sorry if this is weird to be commenting since you don't know me, but I just really loved reading your blog :)

Amazing that you were able to capture a picture of 8 kids that would cooperate long enough to stay still. You are very lucky, like you said, to live so close to other moms with kids so close in age to Cole.
