Viva Las Vegas

Last week we headed out for a quick trip to Las Vegas! We flew to my parent’s house in California and then made the 3 hour drive to Nevada. Cole was pretty good on the plane thanks to a little invention called a portable DVD player….ahhh heaven! IMG_8033

I must admit that I was HORRIBLE at taking pictures! Seriously, I think we took maybe 5 the entire trip and the pictures I took of Cole are on my parent’s camera {which I’m not sure they even know how to upload to the computer.} So some of these pictures I had to “borrow'” off of the internet to make the post a little more fun! I got a full report everyday from my mom how Cole was behaving and it always made me miss the little booger! It was so nice having some Brooks & Katie time, but it doesn’t feel the same with out having to rush through a meal before Cole melts down OR race through a store before he starts screaming in his stroller. Cole did amazingly well for my parents. Not a cry, not a melt down and all love…except for when my mom attempted to take him to the mall.  I warned her, but she ventured out anyway. I guess he proceeded to scream at the top of his lungs when the stroller would stop so it was back to the house he went and stayed!

We arrived on Wednesday morning at 9:30 am which meant we had 2 FULL days of all that Vegas has to offer. We first hit up the hotel cafe for our $40 breakfast. Yes, for 2 omeletts'! Talk about ridiculous! Then it was off to do a little gambling! Our favorites? Craps, black jack AND casino war! Casino War? you ask! Yes, just like the game when you were a kid. High card wins! Easy, mindless gambling and you can actually win some money while doing it!hotelIMG_8055      Then, for one of the highlights of the trip…we got to meet up with Alex and Anais! Alex and I have been “friends” since before her little girl Anais was born over a year ago. She contacted me after learning while pregnant that her little girl would probably be born with achondroplasia like Cole. It was therapeutic for both of us. Here I had just come off of all the emotion that comes along with finding out that your child will be “different” and she was just starting the journey. We helped each other and formed an instant bond! We are now real life friends! We had so much fun chatting and laughing! It feels so good to be around someone who knows every thought you’ve had, every feeling, every tear and not judge and know exactly what it feels like to walk in MY shoes! Ahhh! Sooo nice! I just wish we had Cole with us so that they could have met him, but next time we are all in Southern Cal at the same time we will for sure meet up and there is always Nashville 2010!  IMG_8053

We did GREAT at the tables! Craps was definitely my friend down on Fremont street! I played on $20 for over 3 hours and walked away with $135 in my pocket! Now, that doesn’t mean I came home with that money! haha We would win and we would lose, but overall I have to admit we came home with $60 in our pocket. Not going to say how much we started with! lol Black jack was NOT our friend this trip, but we did have fun trying. We were at a black jack table when we found out about Michael Jackson. It was a complete shock, but the game kept on playing.040428-035_

Brooks’ parents bought him tickets to see the Cirque Du Solei show ‘O’ for his upcoming birthday and it was AMAZING!!! These performers are straight from the Olympics! It was breathtaking and truly an experience we won’t forget! Thank you for a birthday gift we both got to enjoy! Ok, so now on to the MOST EXPENSIVE MEAL I’VE EVER HAD! Oh ya! This one is for the books, especially because I was trying to be a little frugal the second night! We decided to have dinner at our hotel before we saw ‘O’ and ate at a place called Nobhill Tavern. Everything was mostly in the $20 range {which is a bargain in Vegas}. I asked what they recommended and they said the Lobster Pot Pie which was MP {market price}. I told Brooks that it sounded good, but I was going to ask how much. He didn’t want me to {mistake #1} so I just ordered it like I totally knew what I was doing {mistake #2}. It was so good! Then, the bill comes! How much for this little lobster pot pie you ask? Go ahead and guess……nope not even close! $85!!!!! Say what!? There is NO way that meal cost $85, but it did and there you have. The most expensive plate I’ve ever eaten. Yikes! Overall, we had a GREAT trip! I just wish I would have taken more pictures and since my parents had such a fabulous time with Cole I know there will be more trips in our future! Ya hoo! A BIG HUGE thanks to my parents for watching an almost 2 year old who is going through something awful right now!

Sounds like you had a blast....Ray would be so jealous, he has always wanted to go there. And Cirque Di Solei - wow - how cool. I find them mesmorizing on the TV - cant even begin to imagine what it would be like in real life.

What an awesome fun trip! We have only been in Vegas once and we stayed at the airport (layover)! I can't wait until we can actually really go there! I bet the Cirque Du Solei was the best! Wow! That lobster pot pie was a shocker! I'm glad you got to meet up with Alex and Anais! So much fun! Too funny about Cole not liking the mall! Akela was like that when she was his age. I used to joke that she couldn't possibly be my kid since she didn't like to shop! Now, she loves it only 2 years later! It must be all a part of the 2 year old gig! LOL!

I am just catching up on blogs! Yikes! So I hope the lobster was good though-Market price always is a gamble but you only live once. I am so happy you and Brooks got some alone time. We met Anais and the rest of the Bray family in NYC this past weekend-oh gosh the kids are even cuter in person if that is possible! Your parents are awesome for watching Cole. Tantrums are so much fun aren't they????
